The Monolith Deathcult - The White Crematorium
I’d heard quite often of The Monolith Deathcult, but I’d never heard any of their songs. When I saw ‘The White Crematorium’ on the list of cds which had to be reviewed I didn’t hesitate for a moment. And when I found it in my mailbox, it immediately went into the cd-player. I turned up the volume and pushed the play-button… and hell broke loose!
‘The White Crematorium’ is the 2nd album of this band from the Netherlands and their purpose is to teach all the morbidness and destructive power in the art of Death Metal to the musically stuffed to the gills Dutch audience.
The members are known in the world of Death Metal as they played in known bands like Altar, Deadhead, Exposing Innards, Slayne, Izegrim and Eternal Conspiracy.
An aggressive guitar riff with killer drums; that is how this cd starts and that is how most of the cd is. ‘The White Crematorium’ has a great atmosphere due to its dark melodies of the guitars and synths. Synths? Yes, indeed The Monolith Deathcult uses synths. And, damn it sure sounds fucking cool. It accentuates the demonic sphere extremely well. But The Monolith Deathcult don’t overuse them, so they never get boring.
Most of the time The Monolith Deathcult plays up tempo, but mid and down tempo are included as well on this album.
Dutch people will recognize a well known piece of music in the song ‘Under The Blood Campaign’; during the song you can hear the first few notes of the Dutch national anthem. ‘Under The Blood Campaign’ is also my favourite song of ‘The White Crematorium’ (and not because of the anthem). This song includes everything I like: fast riffs, slow parts, dark atmosphere and great drumbeats.
A minus are the guitars solos. I don’t like those kinds of guitar solo’s, but that is my opinion and I do know many people will disagree. But that is the only minus for me, the rest of ‘The White Crematorium’ is great! Great songs, great production, and a great atmosphere.
